Today, I was transferred in the class of Ibu Zatna. She is handling grade 6 students. As I entered the classroom, I thought the students know how to speak English since they are already in grade 6. However, I was wrong because most of them don’t speak and understand English language. I observed the class of ibu Zatna, the way he teaches is very traditional because the whole period she is the one talking and discussing. The only participation of the students is reciting. While I am listening to the discussion of Ibu Zatna, I was shocked because it is not English subject. After the class, I went back to the faculty room and asked Ibu Eni about what happened. I asked her about the class of Ibu Zatna, because I thought Ibu Zatna is handling English subject. Ibu Eni said that English subject is just an extra-curricular activity in their school. It is up to the parents of the students whether they want to pursue the course or not. That is the time that I understand why they are not teaching English, because in the Philippines English is a major subject.

Lessons Learned:
Today, I’ve learned to adapt and trying to converse myself in their culture, language, and of course the kind of education that they have. It is important to ask every time that you are in the state of confusion regarding on the way they teach, the subject, and of course, the do’s and don’ts inside the school. Asking is not being an idiot. Hence, it is being smart. In a way you are open to be informed and to know the things that you don’t know unlike acting you know everything in the country that you are not familiar nor knowledgeable in it. I think the best part of being a foreign student teacher is that you are not just learning from others but you are also adapting a new experience such as you are also practicing their culture and on how to show respect to others.
